The Cute Is What We Aim For moniker was adopted as a 'homage to a friend'. It is also said that the term "cute" was used by Shaant in high school as another word for "cool", and in a phone conversation between himself and guitarist Jeff, Shaant stated "Cute is what we aim for." in reference to picking a name, and the band decided to use that phrase. The band was productive from the get-go, cranking out a series of bedroom demo recordings just moments after uniting. They posted the tracks on MySpace and PureVolume and quickly captured the attention of the blogosphere. From the start, there was a genuine connection between Cute and the kids.
Cute's online presence allowed for widespread national exposure that once upon a time could only be garnered through full-steam-ahead touring.
Their top three songs have a combined 1.3 million online spins. In addition, 'The Greener Side' has over 2.5 million audio impressions on musical.ly.
BUZZFEED: "One of the bands I'm most excited about at CMJ"
Poparazzi: "It's only a matter of time before PLAID BRIXX strikes the right chord and shows the world why their music should be on your playlist with all the other alternative pop that's on the web."
The band's single 'The Greener Side' was featured on Spotify's New Music Friday (Canada) playlist with other artists such as ZAYN, Kiiara, Nick Jonas, Tove Lo, Elliphant, and more!
'The Greener Side' was also featured on the iTunes Pop Store in the U.S. & Canada.
Brightside's project has been gaining momentum in the past year. Having opened for acts such as Ill.Gates, Break Science, Paul Basic, Kaminanda, Govinda, Futexture, Schlang, and Technicolor Lenses, he has been able to put his vision into motion.
A homemade visual project as well as graffiti/street art movement for Brightside is in full effect right now.
He is also working on putting a Brightside Live project into play, combining electronic music with live instruments on stage.
"Running From The Sun" EP - available on Spotify/iTunes now!
